A guide to ASA versus ABS, PETG and nylon for housings, covers, signage, garden, automotive and exterior parts.
WEATHER-RESISTANT THERMOPLASTIC
ASA has mechanical behaviour similar to ABS while offering better colour and property retention under UV and weather. It suits exterior housings, sensor covers, signage, garden equipment and automotive parts.
Weather resistant does not mean unlimited life. Colour, additives, thickness, temperature, load and environment matter. Critical parts may need accelerated weathering or field trials.
ASA · ABS · PETG · NYLON
| Material | Strength | Limitation | Choose when |
|---|---|---|---|
| ASA | Strong UV/weather performance | Warping and ventilation needs | Long-term exterior parts |
| ABS | Tough and finishable | Lower UV resistance | Indoor or protected/painted parts |
| PETG | Easy printing, moisture resistance | More flexible and creep-prone | General covers with modest load |
| Nylon | Tough and wear resistant | Moisture and grade-dependent UV | Moving or impact parts |
